krause springs

a few weeks ago we got to visit our favorite place with our favorite people!

we had a perfect saturday...
it began with seeing this movie.
it was absolutely fantastic, and i suggest very much that you see it
(especially with a bloody mary in hand).
then we went for brunch at la condessa.
love their food;
double love their sangria!
after a couple pitchers of sangria,
we were ready for a swim!
so we packed up the car and headed to krause springs.
 and here we are!
 we staked out our spots,
cracked some lone stars,
 and blew up the floats.
(truthfully, haley blew up the floats..)
it was a great day for a swim.
hot hot hot!
but lots of trees to shade us...
jon and ange threw some frisbee.
and the floats were a great call..
 we sunned,
and watched people (of all sizes) try their luck on the rope swing.
 shortly after this photo,
i commandeered jon's float.
who knew such beauty could exist in texas?!
you should definitely visit!

scrappy vs. kitty staring competition

this is scrappy...
stealthily pursuing his adversary...
who is this adversary?
more commonly known as:
"mr. beepers"
beepers knows no fear of scrappy.
their rivalry is perpetual and their staring competition is ongoing.
 scrappy's other obsession is sticks.
he and gus can never agree on stick ownership!
 but scrappy is patient.
 once gus gets distracted,
the stick is all his.
this is a tactic commonly employed by youngest siblings.
 the cycle continues.

good luck, scrappy.
good luck, beepers.
good luck, fish.

"if you don't hold your tongues, i'll pick you," said alice

last week, we drove to little austin, texas.
we stayed with our old friends, jon and haley,
and their dogs and kitty.

their backyard is huge.  like mega huge.
it has a pond, a trailer in construction, and tons of room for puppies to run.
all the extra rain this year has turned it into a sunflower forest.
it's just the most beautiful sight,
and i had to photograph it to share with you guys.

most things in the yard have been eaten by the sunflowers.
it feels like alice in wonderland!

this is the pond.
look how happy the lilly pads are!

this oven used to belong in the trailer,
which is now being renovated.

scrappy ventured in to find a good stick.

gus came to check it out,
but had to get in a good shake.
then i found this fuzzy caterpillar hiding under a leaf.
he reminded me of one i had as a pet when i was a little girl.
i used to play with him and pet him and watch him climb around his jar.
but then one day he cocooned himself...
i was very small and had never heard of this.
my mom explained that he would emerge as a butterfly.
"a butterfly?!" i asked in horror,
"who ever heard of a pet butterfly!?!"
then i cried and cried that my caterpillar was gone-
not the least bit impressed with natures miraculous little transformation

hope you are enjoying some summer flowers of your own.
i've got more to share from our week in austin;
see you soon!

kaiser wilhelm's new brother otto

perhaps you remember our friends beau and rebecca?
if not, surely you remember their little doggie, kaiser, featured in
i met him at only a few weeks old, and have loved him ever since!
back in the winter, we went over to kaiser's house to meet his new brother, otto.
i took these photos with my phone, because i stupidly forgot my camera.
he was the tiniest little weenie i've ever seen!
toby didn't totally know how to handle it.
last week we went back to kaiser and otto's for a backyard bbq and some swimming!
i was amazed at how big little otto had gotten in just a couple months.

this time i remembered my camera,
but otto wasn't totally keen on sitting still for a picture.

so his daddy plopped him on the wicker table.
otto was trapped!
then kaiser brought out his toy...
but otto was stuck up high... !
he was left with only one option:
eat and destroy the wicker table.
kaiser chuckled.
and continued enjoying his toy.
wag wag wag....
toby doesn't care much for toys, and couldn't see what all the fuss was about.
after dinner, we lounged on the couch.
and otto batted his big puppy eyes at me.
"wait, where are you going, mom?"
toby was happy to have gained a new friend,
even if his new friend liked to chew on his ears.
we love you, little otto!
